Easter Weekend 2013

I try not to get sad and think about my life in "lasts", my last Easter in Vancouver, my last 4th of July  here, my last bag of flour that I'll buy in the state of Washington.  But sometimes I can't help myself!  And it doesn't help that I like my family so much.

We had a great Easter with my sister and kids at my parents house, the wearther was warmer than the 4th usually is and my kids were really good inspite of the non-stop sugar high.

We had the egg hunt in a few empty lots across the street, huge hit.

Start Spreading the News

I'm Leavin soon.

So much has happened in the past 3 months but we couldn't mention it until Spencer informed his employer, but that is now taken care of.  So, in bullet points, here is what is happening in the Hansen house hold.

-Spencer got a job as an Investment Banker for a company called Credit Suisse in Houston Texas
-We will be in New York City for 6 weeks prior to moving to Houston
-Spencer graduates from Wharton in May
-I go to San Fransisco in May
-I go to Houston in May to find a place to live
-I have to sell my house
-Auri turns 5 this week, (Spencer is taking that pretty hard)
-I'm applying to grad school this year (I'm scared to death)
-bottom line, I'll be running around New York City by myself with 3 small kids. (I'm a little scared)

I am excited to not be cold any more though:) I am looking forward to 90 degree fall weather.

I haven't blogged since my birthday for several reasons.  First, I since I got my iPhone 5 I take all my photos with my phone and I rarely upload them to my computer, so it's hard to upload them to blogger, does anyone else have this problem?  Is there an easier way?  Second, I discovered Instagram and I am so over most forms of Media now, including Facebook, t.v. and magazines.  I am exaggerating a little, but I post most of my photos to instagram, not my blog.

But if you are interested, here is what has been going on with me the past few months.  We had a wonderful, easy, quiet Christmas.  There was peace on Earth at the Hansen House, and we loved it.  My kids got along not only all day, but all week I don't think I heard the slightest bit of bickering, it was Heaven on Earth.

Great kiddos, they made my Christmas.

Warren turned 10. It's huge milestone in my life.  I have been a mother for 10 years.  We celebrated his birthday with a small party at my parents house with his best cousin Jake and he went to a Blazer/Heat game with his Dad.

Another big changes, and a little more vain, is that I lost 10lbs.  So, I have been shopping a lot to find better clothes that fit.
Auri goes to preschool in the morning until noon, so we are pretty bored in the afternoon.  I pick her up and we cruise around town.  I never thought I'd be one of people that was a "slave to fashion", but I finally get it.  I get why people like it so much.  It's kind of a fun hobby.

Elephant's Deli in Portland, where we like to stop and get a treat.

One of these days I'll buy something that isn't black or white:)

Anyways, I justify my shopping by reading the same or amount of hours than I shop, or more, usually more.  That way, I'm still putting more time and effort and energy into my mind than anything else...
The Book of Mormon calls this stuff "costly apparel" and it's never good.

Birthday #36

This is my first blog post using instagram photos so congratulate me! This year I turned 36 and I had a great birthday.  If you have been reading my blog for a while now, you know that I am none too pleased about aging.  That's putting it lightly, I am fighting it every step of the way.  So this year for my birthday in an effort not to celebrate it, I had planned a trip to San Fransisco.  Well, Spencer got sick and my trip got cancelled.  Rather than pout about how my birthday is no fun, I decided to have Spencer book me a night at my favorite Portland Hotel, The Nines.  It was amazing.  I had planned on going alone, but Holly said she would meet me for dinner and shop with me for a couple of hours.  Then my shopping buddies, Rachael and Wendy came down for the rest of the night and we had a late night cake/ding dongs/ and a nail painting party. I couldn't have asked for a better birthday.

Just a few supplies for the trip

 My birthday gift to myself.
I got my first pair of boots.
 Reading magazines with Holly
Eating cake and pudding with Wendy in the club lounge.
And the pinnacle moment, getting my ears pierced.
Rachael and I picking out my studs.

 DONE!

Rachael brought sparkling cider for breakfast.

And celebrating with my Dad on Sunday 11/11, because we share our birthday.

This is Warren with his cousin and best friend Jake. I hope my next 4 years of birthdays are just as fun as this, that way turning 40 won't be so brutal.

Happiness hit her like a bullet in the back.

Today I celebrated my 4 year birthday!
4 years ago I was laying in a hospital bed, with stitches in my chest,
paralyzed on my left side, unable to walk by myself.  Today a couple of my new friends brought me some flowers, some of my old friend took me out to lunch in the Pearl District and then out to Cupcakes.  It was a great day.

After my surgery I had a new sense of urgency.  A sense that what I did and when I did it  really mattered, that I had to do things, see things, and meet people. I had a sense that I had something to do, I just wasn't sure what.  I spent a couple of years struggling, wondering, even envying Spencer for finding his niche and being able to go after it.  Well this fall I found mine.  And happiness hit me like a train on the track.  Lyrics from "Dog Days are over" from Florence and the Machine.

I love the fall, I have been enjoying every moment of this beautiful month.
It feels good to be happy again.
Flowers from my new Friends, and a new necklace from Spence

A little garden park in the Pearl that we found to eat our cupcakes:)

By the way, I think I am going to pursue a Masters degree! Sounds crazy, I know especially when if,you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I don't know where a comma goes in sentence and I have a tenuous grasp on the English language in general.
