I know this much is true.

I know I like fall more than summer and spring more than winter.

I know I like cookies more than cake but brownies more than cookies.

I know I like 6a.m. more than 10a.m. and 8p.m. more than 6p.m. (we call it the witching hour around here).

I know that when I go out to dinner I have to order the chocolate dessert and the lemon, (or at least make Spencer order the lemon). I do this because when I was in college I saw an interview with Martha Stewart and she said that when she goes out she always orders the lemon desserts and she can really judge a restaurant based on how well they make their lemon desserts. I concur.

I know when I go out to brunch I will order my meal and always a side of oatmeal, because I love oatmeal....... but not when I make it.

Lately I have been driving myself crazy trying to replicate some past good experiences.

This is the Oatmeal Brulee with carmalized sugar and
berries and cream I had for brunch one day.

This is the oatmeal that Becky L made for me.

And these are my sorry attempts to replicate any good past expreience.
But they were an abject failure.

Sure, I could choke them down,
but I know this much is true,
I like someone else to cook my oatmeal.

Oatmeal is definitely an art. It has taken me 10 years to figure out how to make it. I always made my husband make it, as he grew up making and eating stove-top oatmeal. We did not. I think the trick is adding way more water than you think you will need like 3:1 and a pinch of salt.

I'm with ya. I love me some gooood oatmeal, I just don't know how to make it.

I'm always torn when getting desserts. I love love lemon and chocolate. I always end up getting lemon cuz I know how to make a few good chocolate desserts myself. Didn't know it was a tell of a good restaurant.

Love this post! And for the record, I'll make you oatmeal anytime, anyplace. Maybe it just tastes better in Cali too.

I'm actually that way with eggs--can't stand them unless they're cooked at a restaurant. The almonds and chocolate look SO good in the oatmeal, though! Too bad it wasn't the SAME. :( Interesting thought about the lemon desserts, too. I love lemon! (AND chocolate!)
